Married? Check. Happy? Completely. Ideal weight? So begins the journey...
We remember our pre-wedding selves like a distant memory. Constant workouts, the ability to avoid The Flying Cupcake, and a gown that zipped. Now that we've tied the knot, the pressure's off. But we're still eating like we're on our honeymoon. Let's take the journey back to health together...and enjoy some indulgences along the way.
WARNING!! At this time last year I was even lower than my wedding weight, and I let my guard down over Christmas break, thinking, "I deserve it! I have lost over 50 pounds!..." and then, come New Year's Day. I had GAINED 14 pounds from December 15th(ish) to January 1!! This was when we were doing the wedding blog, so I distinctly remember the shame and disappointment I felt logging in on the blog that day. I turned it around and lost I think 10 more pounds before the wedding, but I would have been even lower in April had I kept myself in better check.
ReplyDeleteChristmas/Hannukah celebrations don't have to be the 3-week gorge fest that I've allowed them to be in the past (technically Hannukah is 8 days, of course, which would be more challenging to narrow down but I think you had your big dinner celebration early, Em, right?). So here's my idea. I'm going to commit to you guys to TRY to work out over Christmas break, and I'm going to limit myself to 2 indulgences in addition to the freebie that is Christmas day. Other than that, I'm going to try to be reasonable. No, I can't control that my sister makes calzones as a dinner option, but I can eat more salad than cheesy, delicious bread. I'm not a child. I can control myself when candy is placed in front of me, and I WILL NOT, CANNOT gain 14 pounds again. That is all. Just thought I'd share now as a warning so that we can all avoid the disaster that was my 2010 Christmas break.
I'm still going to check in on the Friday between now and our New Year's celebration because that will keep me on better track.

I'm not sure how this happened because I haven't been working out this week. I've definitely been eating lighter this week but that's dumb luck because it's been more of a decreased appetite than actively restraining myself. The Harry and David gift basket is still just a few feet away from my desk, along with chewy lemon cookies and chocolate-covered jelly rings, but for some reason they just don't look good to me!
Colleen, I accept your challenge of working out and limited holiday indulgences. I know we can do it! I plan to work out at least once on the stationary bike this weekend.
